Blog 18: Diary / Anne Frank
Anne Frank's Diary is one of the most known women and stories we have studied and read in this book of women's lives. Anne Frank is famous for her diary where she documented her time in hiding to avoid Nazi persecution. She demonstrates the strength and bravery it took to survive the years she spent in hiding through this diary. She faced terror and many frightening experiences during her time in hiding. She describes the brutal living conditions of the families in hiding. Everyone involved is constantly terrified for their lives and the lives of their families. Despite all the hardships being faced on a daily basis, I noticed Anne seems to find the positive to write about too when she finds it. She says, "The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely, or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quite alone with the heavens, nature, and God. Because only then one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature." (298). I loved reading her diary to hear her true story of what it was like to be in hiding. She shows how much strength she has had to endure and how she still remains a positive person and hides solutions to improve her well-being through nature and God, which is so inspiring. She shows that no matter how lonely or terrified one might be for their life, one can be calm again and find peace. She finds joy through small things like lovely weather and simply being outside, which I realize so many people take the beauty in life so for granted and need to appreciate the beautiful things we have. I loved seeing her persevere throughout her diaries and show so much gratitude at the same time.
The quote you chose makes me sad because there was a point in time where she couldn't go outside when unhappy. I love that she realizes this because I also agree that fresh air cures a whole lot of things. I appreciate how she can find so much gratitude amidst all of her struggles and fears even though she endured a life completely unimaginable.
